The New York proposal is a brilliant way to ring in the new year.

Adam Riese popped the question to his friend of 5 1/2 years, Morgan McCarthy, on Saturday afternoon in Midtown.

The Hamilton, NJ, native knelt on the roof of a West 34th Avenue building, with a beautiful view of his future wife and the Empire

He chose the oval-shaped sparkler at his own expense, but a few days before the proposal, they realized the marigold was going bad.

“It's definitely kind of funny because… a few days ago, she sent me a picture and she seemed to love her….

My heart dropped,” said the medical device sales representative. "I used to say, 'She found my stash.'"

It turned out that the ring inside the photo looked quite similar to the one he selected.

Riese, 28, plans to be regular hours in the dark hours with his new fiancée, so he thought a pre-show proposal might help.

"We had this idea that maybe we were going to go get the ball ... growing up in New Jersey, I never did that," he said.
